An evening of majestic music and gripping drama awaits as OVI members, professional educators and opera singers share behind-the-curtain insights into Verdi's timeless Macbeth
Featuring special guest, Justin Moss (Florida Grand Opera), shout-outs from OVI member guilds and companies, entertainment, Operatober highlights... and, of course, prizes!

WHAT: Opera Omaha presents “Opera in Conversation | Art & Opera.”
Join Opera Omaha in The Joslyn’s Abbott Hall for a program exploring the café as an artistic setting and source of inspiration, with Taylor J. Acosta, PhD, Chief Curator & Director of Collections. The conversation examines connections between Café Society and Opera Omaha’s upcoming production of La bohème, set in Belle Époque Paris.
Before the conversation, explore Café Society: Art and Sociability in Paris, 1855–1914
From bistros and brasseries to cafés-concerts, dance halls, and cabarets, the cafés of Paris were important sites for artistic dialogue, expression, and experimentation. This exhibition considers the development of the French café and its impact on modern art in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Café Society is a ticketed exhibition; $10 for general public ages 13 and up; FREE for Joslyn members and those 12 and under.
Opera in Conversation is a series of sessions surrounding Opera Omaha mainstage productions that features creatives, scholars, and other public figures. These events exist to foster cross-disciplinary exploration of art, big questions, and community connections.

WHEN: Houston Grand Opera presents Susannah by Carlisle Floyd
A deeply American masterpiece, Susannah, launches HGO’s 2026-27 season, continuing the company’s centenary celebration of opera icon Carlisle Floyd. Set in the hills of Tennessee and inspired by Floyd’s own roots as a minister’s son, the story follows Susannah, a young woman whose life is shattered after she’s seen bathing in a creek by church elders, leading to cruel gossip, judgment, and finally, her harrowing assault.
Shared through a genre-blending score infused with revival hymns and Appalachian folksong—and a libretto, also by Floyd, written in colorful regional dialect—the opera will be presented in a new staging from celebrated soprano-turned-director Patricia Racette.
Featuring Angel Blue as Susannah; Rod Gilfry as Reverend Olin Blitch; Billie Bruley as Sam; Aaron Blake as Little Bat. Maestro James Gaffigan conducts.

WHAT: Houston Grand Opera presents Gounod’s Faust.
Temptation, redemption, and the price of desire take center stage in Gounod’s Faust, arriving in a dazzling, dance-infused production from visionary director David McVicar. Reimagined as a tormented composer in Belle Époque Paris, the title character makes a fateful pact with Mephistopheles: his soul in exchange for youth and sensual pleasure. After Faust sets his sights on the pure-hearted Marguerite, his passion leads to her ruin—but also her salvation. Set to one of the most beloved scores in French opera, Faust is full of iconic moments, from the diabolical “Song of the Golden Calf” to Marguerite’s glittering “Jewel Song.”
Featuring Pretty Yende as Marguerite; Matthew Polenzani as Faust; Ildebrando D’Arcangelo as Mephistopheles; Sean Michael Plumb as Valentin; Sun-Ly Pierce as Siebel. Giacomo Sagripanti, music director of the Tbilisi Opera House, conducts in his HGO debut.
