Sunny Days, Balmy Nights

Business or Pleasure? It may not be easy to judge for OVI members attending the Focus Group Meeting in Miami, May 6-8, 2011. The Florida Grand Opera’s (fgo.org) support groups: The Young Patronesses of the Opera, The Guild of Florida Grand Opera, The Opera Society and The Crescendo Circle, all welcome you to this exciting event!

Friday’s Board of Directors Meeting at the Biscayne Bay Marriot may be all business, but the day will not end there. Sunny Days will drift into balmy nights as the Miami area opera volunteers whisk us to the home of a Young Patronesses of the Opera (YPO) member for entertainment and tasty treats directly from the YPO cookbook “Sunny Days and Balmy Nights.”

The day begins with a breakfast and a fascinating workshop focusing on opera education in the classroom with expert presenters and fun activities. At noon, we’ll join together for lunch prior to the backstage tour of the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.

With time on your own on Saturday afternoon, you can prepare to meet back at 7:00pm for an outstanding pre-opera lecture (a worthwhile experience) and FGO’s performance of David DiChiera’s Cyrano at 8:00pm.

Sunday offers an optional tour of Historic Miami and/or the famous Miami Beach along with another pre-opera lecture for the matinee performance of Mozart’s Don Giovanni.

‘May is a beautiful time to visit Miami for both the weather and the arts”, says Julie Todaro, Immediate Past President of YPO, “so this Focus Group Meeting will be a not-to-be-missed event.”

Registration information will be appearing soon. See you there!
