Honoring Volunteer Contributions

by Barb E on July 21, 2010

OVI Board member Rose Betty Williams asked, “How does your support group honor its volunteers”?

Rhonda Sweeney of the Houston Grand Opera Guild tells us about the HGO Guild Awards: Each year, the HGO Guild awards a Volunteer of the Year award to someone who has done a lot for the Guild, generally not just that year but over several years. A BRAVO award is given to someone who may not be a Guild member but is either on the HGO staff or in the community working hard on behalf of opera.

Volunteers of Distinction awards go to several Guild members who have contributed special talents and those new volunteers in their first or second years as Guild volunteers are honored as Rising Stars.

These awardees are recognized at a brunch each Fall. All of last year’s HGO award winners (and all prior honorees) are listed on the HGO Guild’s website.
