Vanessa Dillingham, public relations professional, will speak on the use of digital media for opera support groups in OVI’s Fall Focus on Zoom. Focusing on our special needs, she will talk about which platforms, who messaging and many other aspects of these 21st Century media avenues. The Zoom call will take place on November 14. Nominated for Partners in Excellence Awards were William Everett from the Kansas City Opera for his commitment to the Adult Education Program; Carla Thorpe from Lyric Opera of Chicago for her service to there Chapter and heading the Opera Lovers Lecture Corps; and Sara Young from Opera Omaha Guild who has remained Cotillion Liaison for 26 years while maintaining many other volunteer positions.
Matching Grants were awarded to Central City Opera Guild for “Volunteers Maintain a Denver Tradition with Virtual Home Tour;” Opera Maine for “Training Opera Maine Volunteer Ambassadors;” and Nashville Opera Guild for “Launching a Diversity and Inclusion Initiative.”
Projects of Special Merit recognized Lyric Opera of Chicago Chapters’ Executive Board for “Virtual Member Engagement;” Opera Theater of St. Louis for “Virtual Docent Presentation: Reaching Audiences During Covid Crisis;” San Francisco Opera Guild for “Life Changing: An Evening with Frederica von Stade and Jake Heggie;” and Erwin H. Johnson Memorial Fund, Inc. for “The Songstress and the Swordsman.”
